Austenmania!

I just read on Kristi's blog that there is a Masterpiece Theater Jane Austen marathon afoot! My heart started beating faster when I read that and then I checked out the offerings and couldn't be more excited... Northanger Abbey, Mansfield Park, Pride and Prejudice, Emma, and Sense and Sensibility--a super economy sized jumbo pack of love, loss, snarky sisters-in-law, poor spinsters, handsome men with 10,000 a year, and the most awesomely subtle proto-feminist that the 19th century ever produced. I love PBS.

Aw man, this is the first time in the last three years that I seriously wished we had cable. Without cable here, we get absolutely no reception, so we don't even have the network channels. I am so sad to miss the Jane Austen marathon. I guess to assuage my grief, I could pull out my A&E version of Pride and Prejudice.....

Our PBS had Persuasion on Sunday - I got about 20 minutes into it that night when it had to come to an infuriating halt (somebody woke up) and I haven't gotten back to it yet. Grrrrr! Good thing it's recorded!

P.S. If you ever get out here this year, I might be *persuaded* to save it for you in case you missed it on your PBS station!

I just read your comment on my blog. Yes, we do have a VCR. In fact, ours broke a couple of months ago and when I tried to replace it, I discovered that they don't sell plain VCRs anymore. I was too cheap to buy a combo since our DVD player was fine. Ironically, 2 weeks later, our DVD player died and I was so happy to be able to guiltlessly (is that a word?) replace them both.

Anyway, it would be totally great to watch some of the Jane Austen movies with you. Have I mentioned how excited I am for this visit. Every time I have a bad or monotonous day/morning/afternoon, etc. I think about my upcoming trip and feel a thrill of excitement. And luckily, it is now only about 2 weeks away!!! Can't wait!!!!!! (Does this count as gratuitous exclamation point usage? if so, my apologies!!!!)

I am in a state of constant swooning... thanks to PBS. What is it about the strict societal mores that just makes you hungry for more.

How cute was the Captain in Persuasion? YUM. (wiping away the drool)
